“I am not a __________________”
“I don’t know how to do _______”
“We can’t do__________________”
Listen around you. You can hear these statements coming out of mouths old and young. I think it is a shame. People settling for what current reality is. One simple word can totally reframe these types of static statements.
Yet.
“I am not a _________ yet”
“I don’t know how to do _____yet”
“We can’t do______yet”
What a difference 3 simple letters can make. Yet opens you up to a learning orientation, to exploring, to becoming.
I use the yet word a lot with my kids and with myself as I prototype my way to learning new things. One year ago, I was not a blogger. I didn’t know how to tweet, let alone tweet chat. No page views or followers. Yet, today I am a blogger, learning more and more about how to do it better. Yet, now I participate in twitter and lead a tweet chat (#TrippinwithDI 4th fridays at 4:00 EST) and I’m iterating on how to make that more useful.
The same is true for our businesses. We may not be something yet, but with that open orientation we might just become what we imagine. So, don’t sell yourself or your business short. Yes, you may not be where you want to be, yet….

Take Action
- Be clear on what you hope to become, as a person or a business. Open your orientation to the possibility of YET and ask yourself, how might I?
- Let me know if you have any ideas on how I might become a better blogger or tweeter. I am still becoming myself on these fronts.
